An A2 poster of a typographic interpretation of a speech.
In collaboration with Martin McGrath. Public Address System was an exhibition of posters by typographers, shown in London and Berlin. We approached the poet, artist and musician Sexton Ming to create a speech for us to work with, to give the speech an element of the unknown. Much to our delight Sexton created a speech from a cockroach to NATO.
Using letterpress seemed more appropriate than a digitally designed piece, so a very simple use of 6pt Baskerville was set in the middle of the A2 poster. The speech is unreadable from a distance – the tiny yet determined voice of Ricky the Cockroach has to be discovered by the viewer.
